Our fundraising cyclists have ridden south to north across Wales — in the heat — and raised a fantastic amount for the Trust
Cyclists Dave, Glynn, Clive, Ian, Sue, (another) Ian, Helen and Carolyn have completed their fifth coast-to-coast cycle ride to raise funds for the Trust.
This time they cycled across Wales from Llansteffan on the south coast to Conwy in the north, a total of 293 km (182 miles) and 3,308 metres (10,853 ft) up (and down). And all this despite the unusual summer heat!
They have also excelled themselves by raising by far the most ever: over £4,700 from more than 140 supporters, which (with gift aid added) amounts to over £5,700 in all.
Hugely well done and huge thanks to all the cyclists!
If you are interested in where they went, and even possibly trying it out for yourself, here are the day-by-day reports and route maps:
Day 1: Llansteffan to Lampeter (58.8 km, 994m ascent). After setting out from the foggy South Wales coast, it soon got both hot and hilly. Lots of breaks, with Clive (R) supplying extra water at critical points…
Day 2: Lampeter to Machynlleth (82.9 km, 900m ascent). A slightly cooler day, but the longest ride: a mixture of main roads, disused railway lines, forest trails and back roads.
Day 3: Machynlleth to Porthmadog (73.3 km, 790m ascent). A challenging climb at the outset, but then amazing views across the coastline from Aberdovey all way to Porthmadog. Barmouth Bridge is wooden and very bumpy!
Day 4: Porthmadog to Conwy (67.9 km, 624m ascent). Very hot again, and today—although less ascent overall—included the long climb up towards Capel Curig. Stunning scenery: rivers, waterfalls, lakes, mountains.
